The skid steer loader is not just for construction, sometimes it is called in for recovery work after a disaster. Whether it is a tsunami, hurricane, earthquake, or tornado after tornado, there is always mayhem and destruction that needs to be cleaned up afterward. The skid steer loader can make a big difference where hand cleanup might take too long or even be dangerous.

Cleaning up means that the skid steer shows up on the scene in capable hands, ready to help. There are many (if not all) skid steer attachments that can be useful in disaster recovery, but three that hold the lion's share of potential: the Rock and Tree Hand, the Brush Grapple, and the Demo Dozer Grapple.

THE ROCK AND TREE HAND
The Rock and Tree Hand is a very special kind of skid steer attachment that is specifically designed to handle a large tree or boulder with ease. But when it comes to deftly moving large pieces of broken buildings and debris, it shines just as brightly. This skid steer attachment literally looks like a huge red hand; it even has five padded gripping fingers for moving objects that should not be scarred. It has the added amazing feature of the optional rotational base, so this skid steer attachment is able to make short work of the meticulous placement of precious property.

THE BRUSH GRAPPLE
The Heavy Duty Brush Grapple is similar to the Rock and Tree Hand tool, but it does not use padded fingers on its claw portion to protect trees. Instead, the brush grapple attachment is equipped with more aggressive metal surfaces and is perfect when it comes to grabbing rocks, concrete, steel, wood, brush and debris, and placing those things carefully wherever they need to go. Like the Tree Hand, the Brush Grapple attachment can also be used with an optional rotating base unit for even more precise handling of important objects, artifacts, and other material.

Both of these heavy-duty, hard-working skid steer attachments have jaw openings of up to 32 inches, which means that there is virtually nothing in a disaster area (or construction site, for that matter) that these attachments would have trouble gripping and then moving.

THE DEMO DOZER GRAPPLE
The skid steer bucket is one of the most widely used (and abused) skid steer attachment on the market. And the grapple attachment for the skid steer has to be one of the most useful and satisfying tools to use in the field. The demo dozer grapple, an extremely tough and durable combination of these two, really brings the best of both worlds right into the worst places in the world. The demo dozer grapple tool is basically a bucket for the skid steer, but quite a bit tougher. It has incredibly thick and sturdy construction, double-steel sides and a fully reinforced lip. Looking at this skid steer attachment, one gets the feeling that it would be virtually impossible to destroy this bucket, that it is ready to be thrown into the toughest of disaster, construction or demo work. It is also a hulk of a tool. Available in 60, 66, 72, and 78 inch widths, the demo dozer grapple can handle enormous loads.

But this attachment is not just a bucket. The demo dozer grapple is a grapple. Fully controllable from within the skid loader's cab, the bucket portion is complemented by a fully reinforced steel gripping clamp that turns this skid steer attachment into a nasty steel claw. With that in mind, it is easy to imagine where it got its name. This thing was born for demolition, and excels in clean-up after a disaster has occurred.

No one wants to plan for the worst, and it is hard to even imagine scenarios like those that have happened in recent times. But it is good to know that the skid loader and a few hard-core attachments can help in the recovery.
